Volunteer Tutor (Grades 1 – 6)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer Tutor with our Heart of the South, Calgary centre. 

The Volunteer tutor will assist children in grades 1 to 6 with reading, language arts, science and math. They will also enhance self-esteem and confidence in children through patience and encouragement.

  • After volunteer hours are complete, volunteers will be eligible for a reference letter

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key responsibilities and accountabilities of this position are:

  • Commit to two hours/week (Thursdays 4pm-5:30pm) for a minimum of three months up to completion of academic school year (June).

  • Assist children in reading, writing, other literacy-based skills, science and math

  • Notify the coordinator in advance if you are expecting to be absent.  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This role requires our ideal candidate to possess at minimum the following:

  • Ability to read and write in English (other languages beneficial)

  • Interest in and comfort working with grades one to six students 

ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

The coordinator will:

  • conduct training prior to volunteer placement

  • be available to discuss and to address any concerns

  • assist volunteer in obtaining Criminal Record Checks 

Prerequisites:

  • Police Check, Intervention Record Check
