22.5 hours/week (Full-Time Term – October 18, 2017 – May 11, 2018)

OUR OPPORTUNITY

With a vision of “Together, we will lead the way as agents for action and sustainable change”, Aspen Family and Community Network has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Support Worker with the Youth Matters Program. The Youth Support Workers provide support to youth and young adults, 13 to 21 years of age, who have made a commitment to making positive and healthy lifestyle choices. Youth Support Workers engage and increase the capacity of youth and communities by providing after school groups.  The successful candidate will work flexible hours which will include evenings (3 – 6pm) and the occasional weekend. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Apply an understanding of the demographics, social issues, needs and strengths of youth and communities.

  • Engage and build relationships with, and between, youth, communities, schools, organizations, and service providers.

  • Develop, implement and facilitate skill-based activities such as groups, workshops and community events.

  • Demonstrate the ability to integrate different roles such as support, advocate, resource person and facilitator.

  • Increase capacity of youth and communities from a strength-based approach. 

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE 

This dynamic role requires our ideal candidate to possess at minimum the following:  

  • Diploma or Degree in the Human Services field

  • 1 year of experience working with youth & communities

  • Strong communication, community engagement and relationship building skills

  • Proficient in client documentation, file management and use of Microsoft Office

  • Understanding of developmental stages and community development

  • Required training:  First Aid and CPR, Suicide Intervention, Cultural and Aboriginal Awareness 

Prerequisites:

  • Current Police Check, Intervention Record Check, Driver’s Abstract (at time of hire)

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance 

Closing Date:            Oct 18, 2017 or upon hiring of suitable candidate

Hourly Rate:              $20 – $23 per hour (dependent upon education and experience)
